Cape Fear Council of Governments (CFCOG): Chartered in 1972 to consolidate all duplicative regional government entities in Brunswick, Columbus, New Hanover, and Pender Counties, as well as the 40 local governments within Region O.

Cape Fear COG Members & Representatives

The Cape Fear Council of Governments (CFCOG) is composed of 44 municipal and county governments in Brunswick, Columbus, New Hanover, and Pender counties, collectively referred to as "Local Governments."

Membership Requirements:

Each local government is eligible to join the CFCOG by paying annual dies assessed per capita.
Each member government appoints an elected member of their governing board as their CFCOG representative.

Representative Duties:

The representative must attend the Annual meeting to vote on behalf of their local government regarding the election of the Executive Committee and other matters.
Attendance at the six Executive Board meetings is optional but is required at the annual membership meeting.
Each CFCOG representative serves as the primary point of contact for CFCOG matters throughout the year.

Area Agency on Aging:

Leveraging the Older Americans Act Grant to support local services for aging populations, ensuring seniors receive the care and assistance they need.

Workforce Development:

Utilizing the WIA Grant to foster local job creation, provide essential training, and support job retention efforts, helping to build a stronger workforce.

Homeless Services:

Fostering partnerships to create a community response that reduces homelessness and increases affordable housing opportunities in our region.

Planning & Community Development:

Offering technical assistance to local governments, supporting them in planning and development to create thriving communities.

Rural Planning Organization:

Driving transportation planning and supporting rural transportation initiatives, ensuring that even the most remote areas are connected.

Management Assistance:

Providing on-demand expertise and practical support for local government management and finance needs.
