WE ARE HIRING A SENIOR REGIONAL PLANNER

The Cape Fear Council of Governments (CFCOG) is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Senior Regional Planner. The CFCOG is a vibrant regional planning organization located in Wilmington, NC. We serve the local governments in Brunswick, Columbus, New Hanover, and Pender counties in a fast-growing coastal region of approximately 450,000 residents. The Senior Regional Planner position will be highly independent and will be responsible for managing and developing high-quality comprehensive land use plans, developing land development regulations and documents, providing planning- and zoning-related technical assistance and training to local government staff and officials, and other planning and zoning responsibilities. The successful candidate must be able to complete several on-going planning projects, as well as develop new projects and the funding to support them. The successful candidate must be able to work on multiple projects at one time, while still being able to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines. The position may be responsible for performing contract planning services for local governments in the area, including staffing local planning departments on an interim or part-time basis. The position may also be responsible for applying for and administering grants on behalf of the CFCOG or its member governments.

Bachelor’s degree in planning or related field required. Master’s degree, AICP, and CZO certification preferred. Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of planning and zoning in North Carolina and the ability to communicate effectively with the general public and public officials are a prerequisite, and experience collecting, analyzing, and mapping geographic data is preferred. Travel within the CFCOG’s four-county region and attendance of some evening meetings will be required.
